So a few nights ago, I had what I think to be my second lucid dream. I even said in the dream, “I’m dreaming right now.” It was a surreal experience, because I was thinking in the dream how my body was in bed. But, this was a dream inside of a dream. So it was like I had a dream, and then in that dream, I went to sleep and then started having that dream. Was it a lucid dream? Lol maybe I’m overthinking it. I’ve done dream layering a few other times.

This is a tricky question! I've had several dreams where I later decided that it was most likely not a “real” lucid dream, but just a dream in which I had a “fake” lucid dream. But I also remember dreams where I was not lucid, went to sleep within the dream and THEN got lucid. Either because something happened that would not be possible in waking life, or because my brain just clicked and made the connection.
For me, the deciding factor is the moment I realize that I am dreaming. In a real lucid dreaming, this moment is a mindblowing experience, usually followed by an almost hyperrealistic clarity. In a fake lucid dream, my emotions about this realization are much more dull.
But it's different for everybody!
