Ok I finally did it, it felt like I've been trying for weeks but I checked my journal and it's only been 12 days. I'll try and be as descriptive as possible in case it can help someone else here.
Sorry in advance for the long post, here's a TL;DR
Became lucid while flying. Landed in front of my childhood home and stabilised. Met my dad at the door, he hugged me, cried and told me how I would die. Then he said there was a 6ft+ girl in my room. I went inside and met my 'travel guide', insulted her and woke up
The details:
Firstly, I use an app called Awoken (not a sponsor) for my journal and reality check reminders. But one of my favourite features is you can tag recurring dream patterns over time. I look at them every night and four of the tags came up right before I became lucid so I think this helped me this time since nothing in particular made me lucid I just suddenly realised I was dreaming.
The tags for what it's worth were #(mychildhoodhome) #garden #guns #searching. Basically I had just dreamt that I was in a real life battle royale in my garden at home and I was running around looking for weapons. I think these details triggered the realisation later.
Some other info pulled from the app: 13 journal entries, 25+ dreams, 220+ reality checks between April 17th and now.
I don't know at what point I started flying but I just remember being in the sky and becoming lucid. For some reason I knew that I had no body at this time and it was just my "perspective". I didn't know how to stabilise it at the time because I couldn't touch anything. So I imagined myself putting my arms out infront of me and they just materialised before my eyes. At this point they looked normal I guess because I was already lucid.
Now the tricky part. I could feel my consciousness wavering because I still couldn't stabilise the dream from the air, so I began descending, it took a while to get down but I remember shouting some stuff like "clarity please" and looking at the ground as I was going down and I think it helped. It was better than nothing. As I was landing the ground was just like a floating green plateau or hill, not very detailed kind of like a computer game.
When I hit the ground though I started feeling around on my hands and knees and it turned into my driveway at home where I grew up (the recurring location I mentioned before) the strangest thing was I remember the feeling vividly but it felt like carpet not asphalt. I was a bit disappointed with this inconsistency but I could still 'feel' it so I felt pretty grounded. I stood up to examine the rest of my surroundings. It was very clearly the front of my house. The only thing that seemed off was when I looked around, the edges of things were kind of 'shimmering' its hard to explain it was like little specks of white on the edge of everything as if they were holographic projections. It still felt very real though.
Eventually I either stopped noticing this shimmer or I stabilised the dream more and the image became clearer. It didn't feel as real as my last lucid experience many years ago but it was a surreal unforgettable experience all the same, and lasted much longer.
So the next thing I remember is my dad greeting me at the front door. Now his face was completely different I remember it vividly but I did not recognize it as my dad at first. He started hugging me, crying and talking to me. I think when I heard his voice I believe his face changed but I was kind of looking over his shoulder so I didn't see it happen, but he 'felt' more like my dad at this point. I wasn't really paying attention to what he was saying the whole time I was looking at the detail of the porch behind him. It was completely different in the dream, it's not relevant to my experience as a whole but it was more spacious, cleaner and tiled with a single lantern on the floor.
My dad was rambling the whole time, whatever he was saying wasn't that important he just kept hugging me tearfully. The only thing I remember my dad saying at the end was something about me "eating too many hamburgers the day I die" that was a bit creepy but I shook it off. I asked him if there was anybody waiting for me inside, just to see what he'd say. He told me there was a girl in my room and she was 6 foot something. I remember stepping inside confused and saying "that's very tall" lol. (I'm about 5'9)
Inside was much bigger. It was almost like a mansion compared to the actual house, and there were a lot of people waiting for me in the hallway kind of like servants. I was curious to go and see who the tall girl was so I turned right, towards my room. There were two people in the way. A woman in her 60s with long hair who I didn't recognise, but since I didn't recognise my dad at first I thought it could be my mum. I greeted her just in case but nothing really changed. The next person was a younger girl in her 20s or early 30s I said "and you are?" She was visibly insulted by this for some reason and she said she was my "travel guide" and then I woke up. I don't know what happened it might have been a noise outside because it was about 8:30am and it was bright. (I guess I fell asleep around 3am) I had a WBTB alarm for 8am but I accidentally set it to dismiss by itself so I never got up. I tried to DEILD and WILD after this with a sleep mask and ear plugs but I couldn't relax and I think I lost focus and just dozed off after a while. I woke up smiling though because I'm back in the game now 😊
