I thought I'd create a thread for everyone to share any kind of art they've made that's been inspired by their dreams -- lucid or non-lucid.
So if you have made any kind of art that was inspired by a dream you had -- lucid or not -- please feel free to share it here!
Here are a few pages from old dream journals of mine (as you can see by the dates on some). Don't worry, there's nothing awkward in these ones. (I think.). Back then I was doing a lot of sketching of my dreams, sometimes making them like comics pages. That takes a lot of time compared to just writing, so I have not been doing it as much these days, but I do still sketch the occasional image from a dream. I have some new ones I really want to take to a more finished image...
Here is a rough greyscale acrylic painting study inspired by a (non-lucid) dream that I had many years ago. I did this study a couple years ago, and planned to do a more finished version, in color, but have not gotten around to it. In the dream, this monolith-like structure was relatively simple above water, but when I looked below the surface, it was made of a complex network of pipes and other technology. Seems like a rather obvious symbolic representation of the mind (and/or just about any subject one can imagine) being more complex than it may appear on the surface.
Here is an old painting I did of a nightmare, back in '96. The dream itself was in the early 90s. Yeah, I was the guy in the middle. It felt like if I moved a muscle, I would drop into the "bottomless pit" below. I hope to post some more recent stuff here soon. I have a lot of rough sketches from over the years, but few that I have taken to a more complete state. You can see a bit more of my stuff at the url seen at the bottom of the image.
A drawing in my dream journal with scenes from my last lucid dream.
Another "portkey painting" for my bedroom. I have dreamed a few times of my little portkeys, and I'm still hoping to use them for reframing in a lucid dream – going to space would be amazing.
So, I do have art related to a dream I had (not lucid, but still a nice dream). The dream in question happened on the 14th of August, and though I have posted it on this site, I know not everyone who reads this will see the dream post so I'll give a brief description of it before I show my artwork!
I'm in this wooden village in this forest, the sky not being able to be seen. I'm walking around as my D&D character, though, I'm not fully him. I have his memories and appearance, but, I can still talk to the DM and I often zoom out between first person and third person perspective. I walk through this garden pathway and into this flower garden and it's full of colors along with butterflies and fairies. I almost get this sense of euphoria as I seem calm, just looking around and observing everything. That's basically the most important part of the dream related to that art, but, the DM later asks me (when I'm zoomed out) if I remember how I got here. I reply, with my character's memories, that it was through eating a cake (this is false in real life by the way). The DM says no and that I was born in the world that I was in and I end up getting angry, but, wake up shortly after. That's a brief rundown of the dream, so, onto the art!
I made two versions of my art, one drawn and one digital. I used the drawn one as a base for my digital. On the digital, the flowers are a bit traced since I can't draw (good) flowers to save my life, so, just want to put that up front. Everything else though is of my making.
So yea, here's the art! I think it turned out really good (both versions). I don't use "StumpedSlicken" as my signature, but, I've used the signature on the digital version for so long in my sketchbook that it's hard to move onto another signature.
I tried drawing flowers on this one but, it didn't look good so I've had to cover them up with paint and color on top of it, so, if you see the weird looking areas, that's what they are. This picture is just showing my signature really and that it's completed! Anyways, I'll leave on that, as, I don't have anything else to say!
I dream of tapirs quite a lot, because my husband loves them so much. The tapirs in my dreams often do very human-like things, like going to the cinema or meeting for brunch in a restaurant or hanging up laundry or riding bicycles. For every birthday, Christmas, anything that calls for presents, I usually paint a few tapirs for my husband. I used to do rather realistic ones for him, like this one:
But my art has veered away from realism more and more, and so when another birthday rolled around recently, I decided to paint some tapirs from my dreams, having a masquerade:
A page from my comic Lucidity.
Well, sort of, but the other way round? In the video "Learn How to Lucid Dream - Day #4 - Life as a Lucid Dreamer - [ Lucid Lockdown ]" (available on Youtube for channel members of the 'Oneironaut Plus' level), Daniel Love talks about lucid living, dream bridging, dream seeds, everyday mindfulness – and prepping your bedroom to "turn it into a wondrous portal". "Make your bedroom have a double life", he says in the video. He suggests to add things to it that can serve two purposes, one in waking life, one in your dreams. Since I'm prone to false awakenings and a lot of my dreams start in my bedroom, I've thought about adding little paintings of landscapes (about postcard size) to it that I can then use as portkeys to reframe the dream. You touch them and they bring you to that kind of landscape – at least that's the plan. I've hung up a net that I'm going to attach all the paintings to. So far, I only have two, because I had/have other paintings I needed to get done first! But I have planned a lot more.
I have already dreamed about these paintings – but the dreams were non-lucid and I actually touched the paintings and wondered if using them in lucid dreams would work... D'oh.
